Destinos

Aljezur is the perfect refuge in the heart of the untouched Costa Vicentina. Divided between picturesque houses guarded by a Moorish castle and wild beaches of breathtaking beauty, this town breathes peace, nature, and a passion for wave sports.

Situated in the far northwest of the Algarve, the town of Aljezur stretches along a fertile valley and displays a very unique rustic beauty. The town is curiously divided into two parts by the river: the "Old Town," which climbs the hillside through narrow, winding alleys of whitewashed houses up to the imposing Arabic-origin Aljezur Castle, and "Igreja Nova," the more modern area born in the 18th century. From the top of the castle ruins, the panoramic view over the plain and the mountains reminds us of the magical and peaceful environment of this territory, integrated into the Southwest Alentejo Natural Park.

The true jewel of the municipality is its coastline. Aljezur hosts some of the most spectacular and wild beaches in Europe, where the high dark schist cliffs contrast with the deep blue of the Atlantic. Destinations such as Praia da Arrifana, Praia do Amado, or Praia de Odeceixe—the latter crowned by the river that flows into the sea forming a natural lagoon—are absolute references for surfers and lovers of untouched nature.

Also famous for its rich gastronomy based on fresh fish, goose barnacles, and the iconic local sweet potato, Aljezur is the ideal destination for those looking to disconnect from the urban world, hike the trails of the Rota Vicentina, or simply live at the rhythm of the sea and the land.
