Housed in the historic Convent of Our Lady of the Assumption in the heart of Old Town, the Faro Municipal Museum features a rich archaeological collection detailing the city's origins from Roman times through to regional sacred art.
The magnificent 16th-century Renaissance building, with its iconic cloister, displays nationally significant collections, highlighted by the famous Ocean Mosaic and artifacts from ancient Ossonoba (today Faro). The exhibition offers an engaging journey through the historical eras that shaped the region's capital.
An average visit takes 1h30. Facilities include reduced mobility access, a gift shop, and resting areas in the cloisters. Open Tuesday to Sunday, with recommended parking outside the city walls at Pontinha or Largo de São Francisco.
