Vila do Bispo

Destinations

Vila do Bispo is the gateway to the wildest and most untouched Algarve. Between monumental cliffs battered by the Atlantic, deserted beaches, and the historical mysticism of Sagres, this is the perfect destination for lovers of pure nature.

Located in the extreme southwest of the Iberian Peninsula, the municipality of Vila do Bispo is a territory of rugged and authentic beauty, where nature dictates the rules. A large part of its territory is integrated into the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentina Coast Natural Park, which has preserved its stunning landscape away from mass tourism. The town itself, with its traditional houses and peaceful atmosphere, contrasts with the force of the elements felt along its coastline.

The great icon of the municipality is Sagres, a fishing village shrouded in myths and strongly linked to the epic of the Portuguese Discoveries. It is there that we find the imposing Sagres Fortress and, a few kilometers away, Cape St. Vincent — the westernmost point of the Algarve, where a monumental lighthouse watches over one of the busiest maritime routes in the world atop cliffs over 60 meters high.

For lovers of the sea and water sports, Vila do Bispo is an authentic paradise. Beaches such as Amado or Cordoama are world references for surfing and bodyboarding, while sheltered bays like Salema or Martinhal attract families seeking tranquility. At the table, the municipality shines with the freshest fish from the ocean and the king of local gastronomy: the goose barnacle (percebe), heroically harvested from the region's cliffs.
