Lagoa

Destinations

Lagoa is a vibrant city that holds some of the country's most photographed treasures. Between cliffs sculpted by the sea, charming fishing villages, and a strong wine tradition, this is the heart of the picture-postcard Algarve.

Situated in the heart of the Barlavento, the city of Lagoa is the starting point for discovering one of the most stunning and photographed coastlines in Europe. Elevated to the status of city in 2001, it managed to modernize without losing its traditional matrix. The municipality is world-famous for its impressive golden limestone cliffs, sculpted by erosion, which hide beaches of almost unreal beauty. The biggest icon is, undoubtedly, the imposing Benagil Cave, a natural cathedral with an "eye" in its ceiling that attracts visitors from all over the world, alongside award-winning beaches such as Marinha or Carvoeiro.

But Lagoa's charm extends beyond the coast. On the banks of the Arade River rests Ferragudo, one of the most picturesque fishing villages in the Algarve, with its white houses cascading down to the pier. Inland, the municipality stands out as one of the main stages of Algarve wine culture. The local vineyards, growing under a unique Mediterranean climate, give rise to excellent quality wines, whose production has gained strong international recognition.

Combining the mysticism of its sea caves with the sophistication of wine tourism and a gastronomy rich in fresh fish, Lagoa is a mandatory stop that elevates the profile of any itinerary.
