Cascata do Vigário is a striking 24-meter natural waterfall set in a valley near the village of Alte. It offers a scenic nature spot with lawned resting areas fed by the waters of the Alte Stream.
Fed by the waters of the Alte Stream, Cascata do Vigário cascades down a 24-meter limestone cliff into a natural plunge pool. The surrounding grounds feature landscaped lawn areas and shaded spots, creating a tranquil setting within the scenic Barrocal countryside. Access is gained via a foot path descending from the center of Alte village, which involves a short but somewhat steep incline.
The waterfall's flow rate varies significantly throughout the year, reaching its peak during winter and spring following rain events. While the water volume diminishes considerably in dry summer months, the lush natural setting and peaceful atmosphere remain an inviting stop for inland explorers. It is worth noting that tourist turnout during the summer months is extremely high.
