Loulé is an inland city that runs a bit away to the tourist routine. At 16km from the city of Faro, Loulé became the industrial zone of surrounding cities. That fact did not stop the city to gained its own identity and is in Loulé where we can still find the most original craftsmen of things like embroidery, copper work, forged iron, leather etc ...
This bubbling traditional Algarve, happens in the downtown area, where after the end of the Roman Empire, the Moors took the castle left by those, broadened and embellished it according to their culture. Only parts of the original castle structure survived, including the 3 towers that can be visited for free.
One site in particular, the Loulé Municipal market, is a magnificent place. With Moorish architecture, it is the bustling of the city especially on Saturdays.
It is of note that in February, Loulé exudes joy, because it's Carnival time and this city has become famous for this festival.
Along the coast there are dozens of golf courses, long associated with the famous Vilamoura, which is undoubtedly the county's tourist area with hotels, marina, nightlife, and so on... the whole tourist offer of this county is condensed in Vilamoura.
