Due to its strategic geographical position, the Algarve in general is rich in history, cultural and archaeological heritage. Albufeira lives this historical legacy despite being a modern city that exploded with the beginning of tourism in the 70's.
During the Moorish occupation in the Algarve, 'Al-Buhera' as named by the Moors, was a prosperous commercial port with North Africa. With the conquest of the city by the Christians (1250), Albufeira lost its commercial strategic value and went into a socio-economic decline until the twentieth Century.
In our days, Albufeira have the largest tourist infrastructure of the Algarve, as hotels, marina, theme parks, restaurants, bars and clubs, etc ...
The famous nightlife of Albufeira is another reason of the international projection of the town, making shadow to the long known golf courses.
A busy area of the Algarve which leaves to forget a bit of the historical and traditional flavor of the Algarve.
